GEGEN DIE WAND

Junge Oper (young opera) Stuttgart

Opera by Ludger Vollmer
based on Fatih Akin’s movie of the same name
From the age of 14 up (8th grade)
In both German and Turkish language with German surtitles.

She wants to live, dance, be free! Behind the façade of a marriage of convenience with the Turk Cahit, the young Turkish-German Sibel hopes for a self-determined life of her own making. Full of hunger for life and love she plunges into a period of drugs and affairs. However, Cahit falls in love with Sibel.
Composer Ludger Vollmer wrote the first opera in Turkish and German. He uses both classical orchestral instruments as well as traditional Turkish instruments such as Kaval and Saz to create a music bursting of energy, which mirrors Sibel’s painful interior and exterior quest for home.
